Popularly known as Fred Astaire, he was an American choreographer, actor, singer and stage dancer who appeared in both films and Broadway theatre. He had a long and illustrious career spanning 76 years, during which he appeared in theatre and later in film. He has made several musical films, 31 in total. He had a successful pairing with Ginger Rogers, and the partnership appeared in ten films.
