Ronald William Howard popularly known as Ron Howard was born on March 1, 1954. He is an American film actor, producer and director. He became popular in the sixties by playing the role of Opie Taylor, the on-screen son of Andy Griffith on The Andy Griffith Show. He was known as Ronny Howard back then.

Other roles he played include that of Richie Cunningham, on Happy Days where he was the best friend of Arthur Fonzarelli and Howard Cunningham's son. He played this role for six continuous years till 1980. After quitting acting, he concentrated on film direction and has many films such as Backdraft, Cocoon, Splash, Apollo 13, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code series and Frost/Nixon.
